An enthusiastic and active member of the community eager to continue the growth, connection, and vibrancy of Spruce Grove.

Meet Jeff Tokar - Candidate for Spruce Grove City Council

I’ve always believed in giving back and supporting those around me. Whether it’s at work, in the community, or at home. Using my time and talents to make the world around me a better place is my "why". That’s what inspired me to run for Spruce Grove City Council.

After running for Spruce Grove city councillor in 2021 (and coming up just 65 votes short), it really unlocked and affirmed that desire to give to the larger community. Since then, I've buried myself deep in community service and it really affirmed that I was on the right path. Putting my name forward again was a no-brainer.

Originally from Edmonton, I earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta then moved to Calgary where I began my career at Shaw Cable.

Spruce Grove became home 20 years ago, when I moved here to be with my wife (then girlfriend) Michelle—whose family has deep roots in Spruce Grove. We started our family here and now have two amazing children, Meagan and Bennett.

Since then, our family has been proud to give back: coaching hockey, participating in community committees and boards, and volunteering our time with all manner of community groups. I am also a proud Rotarian who always works hard to put Service Above Self.

Professionally, I started out in many key technical leadership roles at Shaw and now lead a world-wide technical team as a Practice Manager at OpenText, working from my home office right here in Spruce Grove.

I bring leadership, experience, and a collaborative mindset to the table. Around this foundation, I’m committed to listening, engaging, and working hard to help Spruce Grove continue to grow—responsibly, inclusively, and for the benefit of all.

Let’s connect to build a stronger community—together.

I would like to respectfully acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting grounds, gathering place, and travelling route to the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene and Nakota Sioux. I acknowledge all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries and whose presence continues to enrich and influence our vibrant community.
