After speaking with so many of you in the community over the past several months, there are a few issues that I have heard many times. I also know that some are looking for more detail on things that matter to candidates. As the election in Spruce Grove approaches, I want to share my vision for tackling those pressing issues. I believe in listening to your concerns and taking proactive steps to address them effectively.
Managing Growth and Density Thoughtfully
I recognize the concerns over rapid growth and density that many residents have expressed. My commitment is to focus on a comprehensive growth strategy that balances our expansion with preserving the unique character that makes Spruce Grove so special. I will advocate for policies that prioritize smart and sustainable development to protect our community’s charm.
Enhancing Traffic Safety and Reducing Congestion
Safety on our roads is paramount. I will prioritize addressing traffic safety and congestion through improved urban planning and additional enforcement. This includes advocating for wider streets, safer pedestrian pathways, and traffic calming measures to slow drivers down. Increasing the availability of enforcement services is also needed to deter the late night racing and noise. By working with city planners, traffic experts, and protective services we can create a safer environment, particularly for our children.
Boosting Business Presence
To tackle the limited influx of new businesses, I will work towards creating an inviting atmosphere for entrepreneurs and mature businesses alike. This means advocating for incentives that attract businesses to set up in Spruce Grove, thereby creating local jobs and adding essential amenities like restaurants and shopping. We need to entice businesses that can provide activities for families and youth (e.g. bowling, go carts, arcade, etc.). I believe that a vibrant local economy will enhance the quality of life for everyone and also help reduce the tax burden on residents.
Keeping Taxes In Check
While our budgeting process is already very transparent through yearly corporate planning, I will focus on ensuring that we conduct thoughtful analysis of projects and services to keep tax increases in check. It is essential to scrutinize every expenditure against community needs. By prioritizing projects that yield the highest benefits, we can maintain our service quality and keep taxes manageable for residents.
Expanding Amenities and Facilities
As our population grows, the demand for amenities and facilities increases. Residents should not have to drive to Edmonton to access amenities. I am committed to advocating for enhanced recreational spaces, including the possibility of a community pool to serve families throughout the year. Additionally, I will explore incentives to entice businesses with activities tailored for families and youth, such as a bowling alley, that would provide engaging social spaces for young people in our community. The challenge will always be keeping en eye on the tax implications, and my promise is to always consider this as part of the process. My goal is to ensure that all residents have access to comfortable and welcoming locations to gather and enjoy community life without a huge financial burden.
Addressing Homelessness
I recognize that homelessness is an issue that impacts our community and requires urgent attention, especially as the city continues to grow. To address this, I will commit to continue and expand the work the city has done over the past several years and in the updated Social Sustainability Plan. We need to work collaboratively with the province, local organizations and social services to continue to deliver services aimed at providing resources and support for those in need. This includes creating more affordable housing options and continued use of outreach programs to assist individuals in transitioning to stable housing solutions. It’s essential that we foster a compassionate community that supports all its members.
Improving Public Transit Options
Finally, I recognize the need for better public transit in Spruce Grove. As a long-time transit user, I am a firm believer in a robust transit system. I will work hard to improve our transit options, ensuring they provide reliable connections across the city and region. A well-functioning transit system will not only ease congestion but also offer residents more choices for getting to work, school, and recreational activities.
In summary, I am dedicated to addressing the key issues facing Spruce Grove with thoughtful, community-based solutions. Together, we can ensure our city grows sustainably while maintaining the values and amenities that make it a great place to live. Your support in this election will empower me to make these commitments a reality for all of us. Thank you!
